Disney’s Animal Kingdom is known for its incredible rides, award-winning shows, and beautifully landscaped grounds. With so much to see and do, it’s easy to overlook the tiny details within each of the resort’s lands that make this park so unique – of course, we’re talking about its current offerings of sweet treats! During this summer’s ‘Celebrate the Lion King’ event, Walt Disney World has pulled out all of the stops to serve up some of Timon, Pumbaa, and Simba’s favorite delicacies, and they’re available for all guests to enjoy for a limited time!
1. Lion King Cupcake
What better way to start off ‘Celebrate the Lion King’s’ tour of many treats than with the Lion King cupcake, located at Pizzafari near the entrance to Pandora: The World of Avatar. This cupcake is made of a yellow cake filled with white chocolate Mousse, topped with sweet buttercream and an adorable (yet edible) image of Simba. Simba comes framed by a mane of orange and yellow icing. All in all, Tim considers this cupcake to be tasteful, with the cake itself being moist, while also complimenting itself well with the icing and mousse on and in the cake.
2. Simba Ice Cream Sandwich
What’s better than an ice cream sandwich? How about an ice cream sandwich with Simba’s face, mane and tail attached? Granted, this may sound a bit odd at first, but after one bite, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without this treat from Tamu Tamu Refreshments located in Africa. The Simba Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich is described by Disney as “Simba’s Face and Mane on an Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich with a Chocolate Tail,” and this really does sum this treat up. If you are a fan of chocolate chip cookies with ice cream in the middle of them, this is this treat for you!
3. Simba Sunset
Are you more of a Dole Whip fan than you are an ice cream sandwich fan? Not to worry, Tamu Tamu Refreshments has you covered with this Dole Whip-Based treat appropriately titled Simba Sunset. Created using Dole Whip Pineapple with Watermelon, Strawberry, and coconut-flavored syrup, this tropical delicacy is one of many perfect ways to cool down during a hot Florida summer day. Best of all, there’s plenty to go around with this treat, as this refreshment is best enjoyed with two or more individuals within your party.
4. Asante Slush
A quick walk around the corner from Tamu Tamu Refreshments to Harambe Market (also located in Africa) will take you to our next sweet treat on our list named Asante Slush. This watermelon and mango flavored shaved ice slush will help you to cool down during a long and hot day at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, while also affording you the sugar you’ll need to help keep up with some of the younger members of your party. Lastly, this treat is wonderfully vibrant, and if nothing else serves as the perfect Insta-Worthy treat for the influencer in your family.
5. Lion’s Latte
Located at the Royal Anandapur Tea Company in the Asia section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, this white chocolate and coconut iced-coffee treat comes topped with a foam print of Simba, and seems to be Tim’s favorite treat from this list for good reason! This latte seems to be missing the grainy feel and flavor that comes with most lattes, making for a smooth cup of coffee. That, coupled with the perfect blend of flavors from the white chocolate, coconut, and coffee makes for a delicious delight that can be enjoyed by the whole family!
6. Bugs ‘n Grubs
The last item on our list of must try treats at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is the Bugs ‘n Grubs Ice Cream Cone treat, located at Trilo-Bites (Dinoland U.S.A) and the Anandapur Bus Stand (Asia). Inspired by Timon and Pumbaa themselves, this green ice cream cone is loaded with Chocolate Soft-serve, Cookie Crumbs, Gummy Worms, and is topped with a Chocolate Bug for flavoring. For those of you looking for a a classic summer treat with a twist, this may be the refreshment for you. Don’t worry, it doesn’t taste like chicken!
Disney’s Animal Kingdom is hosting a wide variety of treats during its ‘Celebrate the Lion King’ event this summer. For those of you who enjoy trying new items at Walt Disney World, these signature offerings are for you! So be sure to delight in one or more of these delicacies next time you visit this beautiful park. They’re all well worth it.
